Novischfest!!

Hej hej!

Last night was my nation's Novisch party - basically a formal party welcoming all new students (novisch) to Goteborg nation. Each novisch is paired with a mentor for the evening - for girls this is a Swedish guy who is already a member of the nation and for guys this is a Swedish girl.

The day started off at 3:00pm outside the liquour store where I was told, via a short text message from my mentor, to wait outside, wearing my suit, for further instruction. I met up with one other Swedish guy, Gustav, who was also doing the same thing. After receiving a call on his cell phone from his mentor, we walked over to the grocery store where we met up with four more Swedish guys and opened a locker that contained a shot for each us and a paper with instructions on it. The paper listed a number of questions about each of our mentors and stated that we had to incorporate the answers into a song to be sung in front of our mentors. In order to think clearly and work on our song we headed to a nearby pub for a pint. One of the guys in the group called his mentor and obtained the answers to the questions then the guys made up some lyrics to the tune of a popular Swedish children's song.

Next, we headed over to the apartment one of our mentors was staying in. There we met our mentors and did a bunch of shots, each of which was preceeded by singing a Swedish drinking song. After finishing a couple of additional beers we all headed out to the AF building where the 'sittning' (a big dinner party) with the rest of the novisch was taking place. The food was excellent and each plate came with a beer and red wine. Our mentors also purchased a number of shots for us and after a series of toasts/drinking songs we were all pretty drunk. Speeches were also made by some officials working in the nation and the university welcoming us to Lund.

After dinner we headed to a party in an apartment building belonging to members of the nation. There we met up with some of our international friends who were not members of Goteborg nation but had bought tickets for the afterparty. After having a couple of drinks we headed back to the AF building where the afterparty took place. From that point on things get a little blurry but from my pictures it looked like everyone had a great time!
